Does the use of third party ink supplies void the Original Equipment Manufacturer's (OEM) warranty on your printer?

Most OEMs do not put this claim in writing as it violates antitrust laws. At the same time, this is also an attempt by OEMs to create FUD (Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt) in the marketplace. Such FUD can play an enormous role in discouraging consumers from purchasing third party ink supplies.

In fact, the policy of most OEMs regarding the aftermarket supplies and the effect on equipment warranties is as follows:

The use of non-OEM printing supplies alone does not affect either your printer warranty or any maintenance contract you may have with your printer. However, if your printer failure or damage is found to be attributable directly to the use of non-OEM printing supplies, your printer manufacturer will not repair your printer free-of-charge.

If in the unlikely event Dataproducts or Fullmark supplies have been the source of damage to your equipment, you are protected by our warranty. We will reimburse you for the cost of repairs with adequate documentation from the service technician.
